I know a picture would be more clear but I am new to forum and am just learning. If I loosen that ground wire, the tester shows open ground. When a receptacle tester is plugged into the outlet, it shows as wired properly.

Is this some way that provides a ground all the way back to other switch and up to ceiling. I have not seen ground and neutrals tied together before. The ground for the cable going to the outlet is bundled with the 2 neutrals in the box. On the bottom of this switch is a hot that goes to an outlet. Once it gets over to the other switch, the travelers are attached to the top of the switch. Red and black travelers are attached to top half of switch and carry across the room to another switch. As mentioned above, the ceiling light hot is attached to this switch. Source power is attached to brass on the bottom. This switch is a 3-way that controls an outlet as well as the ceiling light. Unless otherwise noted, all neutrals and grounds in box are bundled together. The switch powering the red hot in the ceiling is as follows. (The guys also usually make this worse and I have to fix it after they leave.)!īottom is the outlet that is out (the only one).In looking at the work, this could have been some work of the prior owner. I can't get someone to come to the house since they are not considering this urgent. Other than replacing the outlet, I'm not sure what to do. There are no GFCI's blown but I reset them anyway. I got a simple, single switch with no dimmer. I reset at the breaker box and flipped the circuit. EDITED TO ADD- I was told to separate the black and red wires that are twisted and do live black to black on the switch, red to red, then red to yellow if nothing worked and cap the rest. I tried to simplify the wiring (directed by an electrician) and the fuse popped. I removed the light switch, which had a mess of wire caps and a jumper wire. I have also installed 2 down stairs and many before this, without issues. The fourth had a different switch and only the light turned on, the fan did not. I installed 4 new fan's in my upstairs bedrooms.
